Quick Facts

Fly ash is used in concrete and cement products, road base, oil stabilizer, clean fill, filler in asphalt, metal recovery, and mineral filler.

Fly ash material solidifies while suspended in the exhaust gases and is collected by electrostatic precipitators or filter bags. Since the particles solidify rapidly while suspended in the exhaust gases, fly ash particles are generally spherical in shape and range in size from 0.5 μm to 300 μm.

Fly ash is the fine ash collected from the flue gas after coal combustion, and it is also the main solid waste discharged from coal-fired power plants. Its main components are oxides of silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, and magnesium.

The use of fly ash as a raw material in the ceramic field is supported by the large production of ceramics products and the amounts of fly ash produced in thermoelectrical power stations.
